Yo Gabba Gabba & Kidrobot!

Where do I even start with Yo Gabba Gabba?!
As soon as it came out....I was like.....WOW this was made by people of MY generation!!!
They have a great mix of talent in this show, PLUS the aaaa-mazing guests.
It's a departure from Barney-annoying-songs and brings in hip-hop beats and rock bands from today with a splash of RETRO cool! heehee!

Kidrobot has a special line with Yo Gabba Gabba, and had this special event for the release of NEW FRIENDS with Jack Black DVD.
Toodee was there & DJ Lance Rock was spinin' & meetin' his fans!
I went with my friends Audrey Kitching, Jim Sylvia, my sis, her kids and my lil' girl!

Justin...one of the masterminds of the show got us in the meet & greet, and the kiddies had a blast! This show inspires young and old to be silly and creative which I absolutely LOVE!

They're also up for 2 Webbys!

Audrey Kitching cuts my hair for Locks Of Love!

So this is my 3rd time donating to LocksOfLove.org
It's an amazing organization that creates wigs for children with no hair.
I've seen how hard it is for adults to go through something like this,
and wanted to do my part in helping out a child, who should never feel that way.
*My Locks Of Love donations are always in Honor of Mrs. Parra*

I asked my dear friend Audrey Kitching to cut it for me!
Visit LocksOfLove.org for info on how you can donate

"Magenius" Tattoo By Jim Sylvia!

So when Jakob was 4 years old, he made up the word "Magenius".
It's part magic, part genius and at almost 6 he's still using it as a compliment!
I already have my daughter's newborn handprint, so I thought his word was fitting for my lil guy.
This year has kicked off in such a fun way.....

I'm on a new adventure with my business and my Psychologist friend Kristina Bernal.
Our genius idea is in the works, and I cant wait to share!

I chose my friend Jim Sylvia to create the tattoo, because he's suuuuuuch a talented artist!
He's also such a cool hard-working guy, so I had a blast catching up.
Keep an eye for his new line "Gluttony Clothing", 'cause I know the designs are gonna be rad.

Look at what he came up with!
Aaaaaamazing.

....and that's how I've kicked off this magenius year!

"From Burlesque to Couture" at LACMA

Liz Goldwyn put together the loveliest presentation on the costuming that went on in the early days of burlesque and how it has evolved and went on to have a candid interview with Dita Von Teese about her costumes and future projects.
All I know is.....I can't wait to see what DIOR comes up with for one of her performance costumes!
Then Ava Garter had a *sparkly* performance!
Did you know I designed the bull?! heehee!

Dita's costumes were on display, and I can only imagine HOW heavy they must be!
They are SO breathtaking in real-life.
My good friend Audrey Kitching and I ooh'd & aah'd over the detail! Why is it people get a jolt of HAPPY with so much *sparkle*?! heehee!

Then it was on to cocktails and yummy food in martini glasses!
Rose Apodaca was there and told me she had a lil gift for me....
well....the word Dior is the littlest thing about the gift! heehee!
I held on to my heavy Dior book with HUGE appreciation 'cause it came from Rose.
I mean....she's just so full of life and accomplishments! Talk about feelin' *special*, heehee!

Dita recognised the book and knew how heavy it was....no really....she brought it over from France carrying it through the airport and everything, heehee! Looking inside, I could see WHY!
She looked and looked for a dress she had worn....and signed it!

I'm getting a tiny bookshelf to display it above my workspace so I can look up and be inspired!
It's got Rose Apodaca, Dior and Dita all in one glance. People I completely respect. Through their lives, they inspire to keep my drive alive!

Johnny Cupcakes L.A. Grand Opening

Once you've got your *sparkle* fix at Tarina Tarantino...
you can walk next door, and get your *sweet* fix at Johnny Cupckes!
You HAVE to see if for yourself....he went all-out on the inside of his shop,
so GO!!!
7959 Melrose Ave, L.A.
NOTE: He does not sell cupcakes people, heehee!

The thing about Johnny Cupcakes is...
he's LIKE THIS *crossing fingers* with his fans.
He's got his signature Johnny Cupcakes shirts & accesories,
but also comes out with Limited Edition t-shirts!
Those ones are GOLD, because once they are gone...they're gone.

I've been a fan of Johnny's for a while.
You may have caught him in Juxtapoz Magazine.....
So it was a total *delight* to finaly meet him at Tarina's Barbie party.
When I told him I loooooove 1950's everything.
He couldn't help himself, and HAD to show me something in his new shop next door.
We left the party for a sec.....
Eyes closed and everything....took me to the front, and *TAH-DAH!!!*
A HUUUUGE 1950's oven at the back of his shop!
He picked the right girl to appreciate it, and that's for sure, haha!
Another thing about Johnny Cupcakes is....he's just so lovable!

If you don't like him....you're probably straight evil, haha!
I'm gonna call him Johnny Angel....like the 50's song....it's fitting.
JUST turning 26, and a true inspiration for many...including myself.
Making a good example for a drug/alcohol-free person.
Dosen't accept a person putting their nose up in the air with success...
you just have to get to know him through his Blog and see what I mean.
*Johnny Cupcakes Blog*

In being the quality person he is.....
his loyal fans started camping out Tuesday for his Saturday, August 3rd opening!!!
He met every last one.
Even had the first ones go out back for good eats & a/c in the VIP!
Who does that in L.A.?! haha!
Johnny Cupcake does....he's sweet like that.

I went with one of Johnny's Boston friend's Jim Sylvia.
Jim's another great guy, and super-talented tattoo artist.
Get your next tattoo from him here: *Union Electric Tattoo*

This was taken before the madness.
He's an 80's kid for sure....
so I gave him The Neverending Story "Auryn"
For his new Aventure out here in L.A., heehee!

THE Tarina Tarantino Barbie Party!

So when Tarina told me she wanted a "doll house" something or other at her party,
I knew it was gonna be amazing. 'Cause that's just how she rolls!

I told my parents to reserve this day FOR SURE, 'cause I knew Tarina was gonna make it special,
and the Barbie art would be up. Something I wanted them to see for themselves, especially my dad.

He hasn't been feeling to well......
so of course the day of the party, he's not feeling great,
but he went my mom
'cause he knew what a highlight this was for me.

Needless to say, they were blown....away.
I'd always try to tell them just how rad Tarina and her world is,
but you just have to see it for yourself! heehee!
The whimsicle atmostphere, her friends, and of course her line just made it all click for them.....like.....
she's the real-deal when it comes to bringing world of ideas to life!

Dress: Custom Queen Of Heartz. I added the obnoxious *glitter* sash!

The Lovely Kat Von D.

I met Kat back when I was 18 at this bowling alley they had rockabilly shows at. I also modeled with her for some fashion line, and she's always been a head-turner. If you think she's hot now, you should have seen her in her cinched-up waist and Pin-Up rolls in her hair. A walking, talking PinUp DOLL. Although her style changes, the constant thing with her is "What you see, is what you get." It's very very true.
Super-sweet with a dash of WILD, heehee!

I followed her career, seeing what she was up to and all. Tattooing, tattooing, tattooing......Then *poof!* she was on Miami Ink! It's no secret that she did not like it there....those dumb guys.

With all things creative and artistic, practive makes perfect. She's among the best portrait tattooers. She knows what she is and what she is not, so there's this genuine thankfulness she presents to people who support her.

Now I'm just talking from hanging out and talking to her here and there through the years. The closer you are to her, the closer you are to her heart of gold. I just love how she keeps molding herself into the best she can be in the constant circus of people nit-picking her every move.

Summer: 2007

When I found out she was getting her own show, I signed right up, and I ended up on the 2nd Episode! Her shop wasnt ready, so I got tattooed by Kim Saigh at Corey Miller's shop, Six Feet Under in Upland.

Here's my segment on LA Ink: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCiek7O0SlQ

She was having her shop's Grand Opening party at Metal Skool. A fun metal show at the Key Club that cover all kinds of metal rock songs. I haven't been to metal-anything, except when I'm at bars, and that's the kinds of songs to play on the jukebox! heehee! So I went on my new adventure. I love those!
Got there....rocked out....met people that work with her and her close friends.
Then she snuck me in her VIP booth....only people with some wristb
and could be in there, heehee! *sweet!*

From there, we aaaaaall headed out to her new shop. It wasn't open yet (only for filming) and I took a picture with her in her infamous booth....but the ink ran out! Boooo! Back to her office for more shots, drinks and a big *CHEERS*!
Then, kicked it at her place for a bit & met her cat Ludwig. Probably the most famous hairless cat, next to Dr. Evil's in Austin Powers, heehee!

I gotta say, that was one of my most funnest nights in 2007 and there's nothing about her that let me down.
She's got a mind of her own, an unquestionable drive, and lives for sh
aring her good times!

Winter: 2007

Kat put on a special event for charity. 400 tattoos within 24hours.

It would go down into the Guiness Book of World records.

She put the announcement in her Blog hoping 400 would show up. By chance, I went early in the morning, and there were already almost 400 people in line. I was around 355? Needless to say 1,000s came filtering in through those 24hrs and had to be turned away. She found out I was in line and sent for me to get in her VIP line. I didnt get the memo on "the list" and I'm not the type to "bugg" for it. So my sister and I kicked it with her true-blue fans for a while. Had a blast....and when I headed into the shop, I was soooo excited to get my "LA" by Kat. I'm in that episode for 2 sec. Kat had already lost her voice and I was chattin' away, heehee!

Tarina Tarantino : TOKYO HARDCORE Party

I headed out to Tarina's Tokyo Hardcore party with my friends Audrey Kitching & Anna Estella.
The line is inspired by the neon lights of Tokyo....and I can't pass up ANYTHING with a neon splash. I remember dressing head-to-toe in *neon* when I was younger, but Tarina takes it to a whole new level and makes it classy!

Hollywood Rockabilly Showdown with Queen of Heartz & Dita Von Teese

The Kitting Factory, Hollywood :
September 2, 2007 (Day 3)

If you're ever on Hollywood Blvd. Labor Day weekend,
you might notice an unusual amount of19 50's cars and people roaming the streets.

The Hollywood Showdown is a 3-day weekender presented by BlackCat Entertainment. The leading promoters of Rockabilly, Psychobilly and 1950's shows. I was a part of the 3rd day : 1950's Rockabilly and R&B. A sell-out show to say the least.

I hosted the Queen of Heartz Fashion Show. Designer and my close friend, Letty Tennant lives and breathes the 1940's and 50's. It's a complete delight to see it in her designs and her attention to special fabrics. I know all kinds of designers take bits and pieces from those eras, but she lives it. There's a
huge difference. The music, cars, and clothing is a 24/7 deal. That's not to say she's snobby about it either. Letty is one of the most easy-going-yet-driven girls I've ever met. Coming straight from the POOL Trade Show in Las Vegas, she presented her line at the Showdown to an adoring audience.

You might be wondering why it was such a sell-out show. A living rockabilly legend, Wanda Jackson
was headlining! Unfortunately I was backstage with the Queen Of Heartz gang for the encore Fashion show that went on after Wanda, but I could hear people rocking out to her "Fujiyama Mama" and the rest of her hits. She didn't miss a beat and growls out her unmistakable voice after all these years!

There was also a surprise guest that showed up. Dita Von Teese!
I Featured her in my site back in 2002, and
so much has changed in her career. All for the better. She is now a style icon, has her own burlesque book, and the best of the best want her next to them. Think of the best......yeah, they want her presence and look. M.A.C., Dior, and Louis Vouitton to name a very few. The thing about Dita is that as perfectly put together as she is, she is still very down-to-earth and real. Back when I Featured her, she put me on the guest list to her performance at the FortyDeuce Club as a Thank You. It's been years, but I'll never forget HOW blown away I was at the sparkle and her immaculate performance.

I got to chat it up with her backstage after Wanda's performance and have some laughs. I've always loved the way she talks. So delicate, smart and witty!

That night was supposed to be a pretty low-key night for her. She was there to see a small band she had run into when she was in Italy. Only to come to the most wanted ticket of all rockabilly's! She's like the Bettie Page of OUR generation, so her presence that was HUGE. I was just embarrassed that she had just traveled through the best of Japan and Italy, and here she was at the Kitting Factory on a VERY sold out night. Most of my friends had already left because it was too hot and "gross". She wanted to catch the band she came to see though. So we came out of the backstage area into the crowd. The very sweaty, very sticky, packed-like-sardines crowd. There was Dita in the mix.....just fanning herself and enjoying the show. My eyes were THIS BIG as I saw her handling all this. I think I would have already been a diva and left, haha!
.....she wasn't a diva, and how cool was that?!
